MIB Management

The management of the MIB answers to a general Management board. There are three equal management factions under the responsibility of the Management board. These are as follows:

Management board

The role of the MIB Management Board is to comment upon high-level research policies and priorities for the Centre, as set by the Director in consultation with MIB colleagues and the Scientific Advisory Board. It also ensures these policies meet with academic objectives, and remain in line with future strategy.

This will extend the excellence of research at the interface to biology and consolidate the international standing of The University of Manchester.

Integrated solution

The Management Board also oversees the delivery of new infrastructure for the MIB that forms an integrated solution for viable research and novel interdisciplinary activity.

Another remit considers and approves an annual financial appraisal and business plan and considers any changes in circumstances, which can impact on cost, programme or objectives. The board then evaluates and agrees appropriate action.

Composition and membership

Management council

The MIB Management Council is the senior management committee within the MIB. Its role is to advise the Director on all aspects of strategy and operational management of the Institute. The Director then reports the findings to the MIB Management Board.

Members of the Council also play a key role in seeking to ensure the principal University stakeholders’ views are appropriately canvassed and taken account of in the development and implementation of strategy, and in operational management decisions.

Composition and membership

Research committee

The MIB Research committee reviews the research strategy of the MIB and its relationship with the research strategies of the Faculties and Schools, in order to help to determine a coherent University research programme.
