Our history

The MIB grew out of a commitment to develop a globally recognised focus of interdisciplinary research at the interface to biology. With the support of funding from the Wellcome Trust and the Wolfson Foundation, we were able to construct a building designed to host an outward-looking research community.

Our Research

Research within the MIB focuses around three fully complementary and synergistic research themes, with an extensive programme of technology development at the heart of our programme Researchers in the MIB hold a total live grant portfolio worth over £40M and an annual research income of £13M. No animal experiments are carried out within the MIB

Our Building

The MIB has been specifically designed to foster a scientific culture in which there are no barriers between the disciplines, thus ensuring that the widest possible range of expertise and techniques can be brought to bear on quantitative bioscience problems.
