Research Environment
More than 50 research groups are teaming up in MIB at the University of Manchester to join forces for research on Systems Biology, from all relevant disciplines (from molecular and cell biology to mathematics and text mining). Our commitment to the study of Systems Biology is stimulated by a world-class professorial team, rated best Systems Biology expertise in Europe.
The Manchester Centre for Integrative Systems Biology is at the forefront of this endeavour. Propelled by a large infrastructure grant from BBSRC and EPSRC (£6.4M) and by a multitude of Systems Biology related research grants, it embodies a wide range of research on unicellular organisms; mammalian systems; drugs; biotechnology; cosmetics; etc.
Our infrastructure makes us a magnet for more and more groups worldwide. The University of Manchester is the 2nd University in EPSRC grant support by number (4th by value), and also an equally top grant-holder by value in BBSRC. Our members are partners in many worldwide Systems Biology consortia (IEcA, YSBN, RTKC, Silicon Cell, and others) and connected to the largest European national Systems Biology programme, Hepatosys. We are also part of the only European Network of Excellence on Systems Biology (BioSim).
