Based in the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology – a world-leading institute for engineering biology – we offer access to our experts, both academic and technical, and facilities and equipment which is backed by over 20 years of cutting-edge research.

We're funded by a £1.2 million EPSRC investment in the UK’s research infrastructure, and have an interdisciplinary team of research technical professionals (RTP) that will support you to develop your technical skills and allow you to drive innovation and push the boundaries of biomolecule engineering in your workplace.

Our team are continually refreshing their knowledge and skills by attending national and international events, workshops and conferences to ensure they can offer you unrivalled training in best practice, open standards, bio-parts and data.

How are we supporting the engineering biology vision?

The UK government have listed engineering biology as one of their five critical technologies that will support the UK’s transition to net zero, and UKRI has listed it as one of their strategic priority research areas. To support these ambitions, MBEC provides a national training hub with expert training opportunities on a range of technological platforms to ensure all researchers are fully equipped to deliver the UK’s vision of moving towards a more sustainable and circular economy.

We promote integrating cross-cutting technologies in professional and academic settings that will support discovery science and translational research that can be applied in industry.
